MATCH REPORT
HIGHLAND 29 BARRIE 0
Well, the pre season is over and the real fun has started. Our opening account was a home match at Fletchers Field. So despite the last minute change of venue we had 19 boys turn up, so I would like to think all of the boys and their parents for helping dig us out of the mud.
So, of we started on a beautiful sunny morning, with some good opening tackles and rucking, which resulted in Jordon Hofstra opening the scoring with a good solo run from deep. Scott Rhodes added 5 soon after to make it 10 – 0. With some good solid tackling from Chris Payne, Devyn Yandt, and Wyatt Martingdale all three playing in their first game and some neat passing from Owen Brombal and Simon Laughlin Highland caused constant worry and pressure for Barrie. The front row of Alex Kamarianakis, Tanner Wedgewood, and Guillaume Barratt caused constant pressure to a fiery pack from Barrie, this ultimately leading to our third score when Guillaume Barratt powered over for a try.
A well deserved half time came with Highland leading 15 – 0. The second half, started on a sour note when Alex Kamarianakis was taken to hospital with a hurt neck. Some strategic substitutions were made, with Graeme Hamilton and Thomas Voitk, taking over at lock and Sampson White at Hooker all three straight away getting in the thick of things. Nick Mills was in control at scrum half as he started some slick passing to Ryan Kilburn which gave Alex Tworek his first try of the season, and with Nick Teri converting Highland took a 22 – 0 lead. The game was wrapped up in the dying minutes with Joel Brattan adding a further 5 with a touchline run, this time Riley Bruce doing the kicking duties adding another 2.
Highland ended up 29 – 0 winners with man of the match going to Scott Rhodes, who in his first league game showed us that he is going to be a hand full for any team we play this year.
