Season Wrap-up
Posted on: 09/12/2006 01:21 PM
Gentlemen,

I want to say first to keep checking this webpage in the off-season, and to use it to communicate with your teammates. Your coaches will place notices and lessons on here all year. Remember that Highland's indoor training will start after mass as well. Also, remember to contact me ASAP for a banquet ticket for you and any guests ($20 each, and the numbers are limited - so get them soon). We will be announcing awards and discussing the season at that time.

Congratulations on a great year - once again you have elevated this humble club from Fergus to the elite level of rugby in Ontario, and the country. I want to personally say, and I know that Ted feels the same, that we are so very proud of how far you have all come in one season. At the beginning we had 33 guys who didn't know each other with a wide range of experience (from previous ORU finals experience, right to no previous rugby experience), and in the end you have all improved and grown as a team. Your work ethic and determination have lifted your rugby skills to a high level. I would encourage you to harness this hard work ethic in your school work, and in everything you do; it will make you a success in life, not just in rugby.

Some of you will be returning to the U16 next year, and will form the nucleus of another championship-caliber team. More of you will be moving on to the U18, and hoping to have the same level of success there. Either way, you are now fully a part of the Highland family. Hold your head up high and with pride when you talk about your club, and encourage friends of all ages to join. The next few years promise to be great ones with some exceptional talent moving up to get the men's team back to the forefront of Ontario Rugby, and with the development of your very own clubhouse. Your pictures and awards will be the first to go up on the new walls, and you will be the ones to lead the way for the younger generation of Highlanders.

In any event, I will see you all at the banquet and perhaps when the high school rugby season starts again. Do not hesitate to contact me if you want direction or help with regards to off-season rugby resources, practice or fitness as well.

Once again, you have given us a great season and made your coaches and the whole club proud - thank you.

Yours in Rugby,

John

Three cheers for Ted, Howard and John.
They not only helped us bring our game level up but also taught us the importance of team spirit. Also to our parents for having to take us to games and practices without them we would have been lost.
Thanks guys for a great experiece.

Thank you gentlemen,

I must admit that I have been lazy (I had rugby burnout, and hadn't been on this site, for a couple of weeks after we were finished) about posting the game reports for the final; they are still printed in my book and will go down on the site to be recorded and archived along with everything else for your season.

It was a nice showing at the luncheon yesterday - for those who missed it the U16 awards were:

MVP - Forward: Jarrett Hamilton
MVP - Back: Taylor Witzel

MIP - Forward: Sandy Black
MIP - Back: Curtis Lott

We also presented Charlotte (the club therapist) with a basket based on your donations - she was very grateful and moved by it.

Thanks again for a great year (we are very proud of how far each of you have come), and we hope that you all come back next year for another great season.

Keep in touch in the offseason, and study hard all year!!

Remember:
1. School
2. Work/Chores
3. Rugby
4. Everything else..... :)

John
