Steph de Vries Takes On Head Coaching Duty For Senior Womens.

Highland Rugby Club is pleased to announce the addition of a new Senior Women's Head Coach, Steph de Vries.

Steph de Vries started playing rugby at CW and joined Highland where she fell in love with club rugby. She continued her playing career at University of Guelph for the Gryphons where she was an integral part of the 2011 National CIS Championship. Steph was a dual sport athlete who also represented Guelph wrestling at the CIS level. She went on to represent Ontario at the National Rugby Tournament and was long listed to the National Team.

After her extensive playing career, Steph retired to pursue a coaching career. She started coaching at her local high school, and quickly moved into a coaching role at the University of Guelph where she has been a forwards coach and back row specialist for the past three years.

When asked about her new role at Highland, Steph shares her thoughts.

"I'm very excited to get reinvolved in the rugby club that I grew up with. I'm looking forward to being able to offer my knowledge and experience to the women's division. It's exciting to get to collaborate with other people who are passionate about the sport, like Chris Jones. My goal for this season is to continue the success of the program and have it grow even further."

de Vries will be joined by her wife, Steph Tibelius, who will act as support staff for the team. Tibelius comes from an extensive playing career where she has represented the Guelph Gryphons, Ontario and U20 Canada. With the Gryphons, she was the top scorer for the 2011 Champions. Since retiring, Tibs has moved into a management role with the Gryphons.

Joe Bowley shares his thoughts on the additions to the club: "The club wanted to complete its coaching team for the Womens division. With the return of the Stephs to Highland Family we feel we have a great combination for the 2017 season. Highland now has a full compliment of expert coaches at every level of the womens division."
