The U14 Girls team headed to Barrie on October 22nd to compete in the Ontario 7’s Rugby Championship. Early wins over Toronto City and Guelph lined up a rematch vs Barrhaven Scottish from Ottawa in which the U14’s lost in the preliminaries and beat in the finals of the Belleville 7’s tournament back in September. Barrhaven was looking for revenge but the U14’s dominated and came on top with a 28-15 win. This took us to the final game and a rematch vs Oakville Crusaders who had beat the U14’s in the final of the Fergus Border 7’s tournament. The girls had wanted a rematch to avenge the previous finals loss, going against a Crusaders team that had not lost a 7’s match all season. The girls executed the gameplan flawlessly and by the end of the game Oakville had no answer as the U14’s won 28-10 and dominated the match from the opening kickoff to final whistle.

Special mention to Marlee Strauss who captained the U14 team to victory and led the way with two tries in the final. Also special mention to Olivia Smith with several dominating runs and tackles that completely exhausted most of the Oakville team. Violet Toner received player of the match t-shirt from Toronto City in the first game of the tournament. All 12 girls played an important part to win all four games and it was an absolute pleasure to coach such a dedicated, eager and talented team.
