Highland HOGs are getting ready for another great season, and opens it doors to New members

Around the Club and throughout the Fergus community, we are simply known as HOG’s. However, officially we are called the Highland Old Guys…. a co-ed, team of rugby players that play in the 45+ age group. Even though our name implies “old,” we are young in spirit and in our minds entering only our third full season of play. If nothing else, on Saturday afternoons we prove that by playing a very entertaining style of rugby which keeps the smile on our faces and those that come to watch the action.

We established the HOGs through a basic desire among us “old guys” to continue playing rugby at a competitive, yet slightly less damaging, level. From that desire became reality. We trained… healed… trained some more and proudly legitimized ourselves as a squad in the Lake Placid, New York Old boys’ tournament in August of 2022. Ask any of us for the details. It involves a team of ex U.S. Marines, a ton of memories and, in some cases, scars that will never be forgotten.

To expand our focus since our onset, the HOG’s aim to give back and help our community. We do this in several ways such as organizing Food Bank Drives, and participating in the Walk for Alzheimer’s and are always open to taking on similar opportunities.

So, if you have been thinking of returning to the amazing sport of rugby or trying it for the very first
time, join us on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays at 7:00pm for a run around. Life is enhanced when we “Keep Our Cleats On” but please understand that the HOG’s is open to all, not only active/contact players. If you have hung up your boots and just want to be around rugby, come on out and cheer on all the Highland teams and join us for a sociable beverage afterwards. See you out there!
