What a great day for the Highland U12 Rugby team down at Burlington on Saturday

What a great day for the Highland U12 Rugby team down at Burlington on Saturday. The team came out with great determination and effort. The first game was against the Nomads, we had an amazing offense with crisp passing and straight forward running. This led to Ben starting off the try scoring followed up quickly by Kevin, with two tries, Carson, and Cullen. The defense was getting up to the attaching opposition fast and led by Liam and Jackson with some beautiful tackles. This defensive effort didn’t allow the Nomads to get across midfield in the first half.

The shut-out of the Nomads was followed by another great game against the Beach’s club. Beach’s was finally able to break the Highland defensive line for two ties but our offensive power did not slow down with tries scored by Cole, Jackson, Cullen and Carson.

The third match saw us up against the very experienced side of Mississauga. Our team put in another great effort but some very strong running by the Mississauga side saw them pull ahead with a couple tries. Not to be out done, Carson had a great run up the pitch, Jackson had another and scored for Highland. Some more great tackling led by Kevin saw Highland hold the opposition to only a few tries. I haven’t heard the results from the tournament yet but I believe the Mississauga team was in the finals.

So, a great result for the day and the whole team should be proud of their performance on the pitch, I know Bruce and I are. As I was walking the sidelines I heard many comments about our U12’s, “that’s great rugby”, “those kids look like they’re having a lot of fun”.

Well done everyone and thank you to all the parents for getting the kids down to Burlington. Let’s continue this effort in training and prepare for our next match.

I have heard a number of our U12 players saying they are very excited by the strength and ability of our team, I know I am too!
