Another outstanding performance by the Highland U12’s.

Another outstanding performance by the Highland U12’s.

Saturday morning driving down to the rugby club, overcast, a little rain and the weatherman says chances of thunderstorms. Boy was he right! Although the thunderstorm was on the pitch not out of the sky.

Highland U12’s hosted Bruce County and few from Waterloo. We started the day out by pitting our seasoned U12’s from last year against the experienced players from Bruce, and a huge defensive struggle took place. The thunder was brought by Kevin, Zach and Cameron with some beautiful tackles and some crushing determined runs by Mateo and Calvin. Not to be out done Owen, the only rookie on this squad, had some great runs and passes. Bruce was finally able to break our line and score but the determination of our U12’s saw them go through eight phases of play to gain hard fought ground which led to Carson scoring our try.

The second game had our rookies up against the rookies from Bruce and a much more offensive game was played. Brodie had the team well organized on kick-offs which led to Cullen scoring our first try of the match with a great run up the pitch. Brodie was next to score followed by two great tries from Liam, Gabbie had a fantastic run up the side and scored Highlands fifth. Angus and Cole helped set things up with some great runs into contact and the defense was held together with more great tackling by Karson and Ben who led an amazing goal line defense that prevented Bruce from scoring their fourth try.

The third game was another hard fought match by U12 “veterans”. The match was full of great runs and passing along with good defense and tackles. Although we didn’t score this squad fought hard right to the last whistle.

The last game of the day saw Bruce county come out with great determination and scored a few tries. As in the previous match everyone fought hard and led by Cullen with two tries and Liam with three, Highland was right back with in one score with only one minute to play.

Great playing everyone! I know the fans on the sidelines were witness to some great Rugby and very promising future Highland Rugby stars.
