Rugby club gets nutritional advice
Members of the Fergus Highland U18 Women’s Rugby Team received training from the ‘Experts Express’ grant under the Quest for Gold Enhanced Coaching Funds administered by the Coaches Association of Ontario.
The grant is available to sport clubs across the province and provides mentorship with provincially endorsed experts in one of four categories: Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Coaching Athletes with Disabilities and Leadership and Management.
The Fergus Highland Rugby Club received the grant to provide the U18 Women’s Rugby Team a nutrition session called ‘Fueling for Performance. Cara Kasdorf, RD with the Grand River Sports Medicine Centre, led the girls through a four-hour session that included an introduction to nutrition and healthy eating, and a hands-on session of preparing healthy food to assist them in Fueling for Performance.
Juli Brattan, vice-president of the Fergus Highland Rugby Club, submitted the application as she wanted to give the girls in the club the opportunity to learn the importance of how nutrition affects performance in sports.
“Proper nutrition is such an important factor in any teenager’s life,” she said. “When you add sports into the mix, it is really crucial to be eating the proper foods at the proper times to ensure you stay healthy and play to the best of your ability.”
The Fergus Highland Rugby Club would like to thank the Coaches Association of Ontario for providing our young women the opportunity to learn about nutrition and sports.
